1. Three Strategies for Producing Quantum Light with Semiconductor Rydberg Excitons

   In this talk, I will present three related strategies for this purpose that are effective in the presence of strong dissipation. These possibilities are opened up by high-lying excitonic Rydberg states with unusually strong interactions.

   I will discuss two applications: By coherently coupling light to Rydberg excitations in a dense atomic medium, we have realized a highly nonlinear optical medium where the interactions between individual photons are so strong that two photons can even form a bound state.
