Abstract

NEEDS (Nano-Engineered Electronic Device Simulation) is funded by NSF and SRC and charged to advance device science and connect it to applications. NEEDS consists of teams at Purdue, Berkeley, MIT, and Stanford.  The focus is on deep, physics-based compact models, which connect fundamental work to applications. In addition to developing compact models for a wide variety of nanodevices, NEEDS is creating a comprehensive, online resource ? a set of compact models, best practices and processes supported by a suite of tools for developing compact models and educational resources. While building this infrastructure, NEEDS advances the science of nano devices, but the overarching goal is to demonstrate the promise of a model-driven approach to new era electronics. The talk is a brief overview of the program that discusses the rationale, status, and plans for NEEDS.
