Abstract

We consider an atom with three levels. It is illuminated by two lasers, one driving transitions between states 1 and 2, the other driving transitions between states 2 and 3. At the beginning and the end of the pulse, both lasers are switched off. The player can choose the field amplitude ("strength") of both pulses over time. The goal is to transition the atom from its ground to its fully excited state. A complete transition (100%) exists!
