CompuCell3D model: Senescent mesothelial clearance by ovarian cancer cells
A compuCell3D model to show how cancer cells eliminate senescent mesothelial cells more efficiently than non-senescent mesothelial cells.

Abstract
In this tool, we simulate ovarian cancer cells' ability to kill senescent mesothelial cells in a mixture of senescent and non-senescent mesothelial cells. These mesothelial cells form the first lining of defense and are the physical barrier at the secondary sites of metastasis such as the parietal peritoneum and greater omentum. The peritoneal spread of ovarian cancer drastically increases with age. Experimental studies have shown how senescent cell accumulation in tissues (corresponding to aging) can lead to metastatic burden.
The senescent mesothelial cells secrete chemokines to attract cancer cells and cancer cells can actively kill senescent cells by sharing their perimeter. If the perimeter shared with cancer cells exceeds a certain threshold, senescent cells are extruded from the monolayer.
