Description

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) or scanning force microscopy (SFM) is a very high-resolution type of scanning probe microscopy, with demonstrated resolution on the order of fractions of a nanometer, more than 1000 times better than the optical diffraction limit.

  1. Near-field radiative heat transfer and Casimir Force Measurement

    Online Presentations | 30 May 2012 | Contributor(s):: Joel Chevrier

    This presentation first makes a simple introduction on how the charge fluctuations give rises to these effects that are nowadays most effectively detected using MEMS or AFM technologies. This will lead to question the relevance of these effects in the use of MEMS. After description of our...

  2. Nanoscale Spectroscopy and Plasmonics in Infrared

    Online Presentations | 19 Apr 2012 | Contributor(s):: Mikhail Belkin

    In this talk, I will present the results of two of our research projects. I will start with a simple technique for nanoscale mid-infrared spectroscopy that we have developed recently. Subwavelength resolution is achieved by detecting optical absorption through measuring local photothermal...

  8. Atomic Force Microscopy: Applications for Life Science Research

    Online Presentations | 03 May 2011 | Contributor(s):: Irene Revenko

    This presentation presents the principles of AFM and demonstrates the applications in Life Sciences. We will also discuss key points about the technology, and more particularly, the technical characteristics you should understand when using an AFM such as noise level, limitations of the...

  9. AFM Sample Preparation in Biology

    Online Presentations | 03 May 2011 | Contributor(s):: Irene Revenko

    All biological samples are different, the key is to start with established recipes for similar samples, then adapt the procedures for a different one. We'll present guidelines for choosing a substrate, immobilizing the sample, choosing the proper cantilever, as well as tips and tricks optimize...
