Spill Cleanup of Liquid Dispersion Controls

Operation

Clean up a liquid dispersion of engineered nanomaterials using:

  • Verify the hazard of the materials used in the dispersion (solvents and nanoparticles)
  • Wet wiping (appropriate for the solvent in the dispersion)
  • Other facility-approved methods that do not involve dry sweeping or the use of compressed air
  • Dispose of used cleaning materials and wastes in accordance with the home Laboratory’s hazardous-waste procedures

Controls:

  • PPE should be used to minimize potential for dermal and eye exposure
  • Latex or nitrile clean room gloves
  • Goggles or laboratory glasses
  • Depending on the solvents used, verified respiratory controls

Alternatively, Control Banding may be employed when more is known about material reactivity, exposure duration and material state.
