    You can approximate a nanowire in the quantum dot tool by choosing the geometry and the dimensions to resemble a wire, rather than a dot. You would be limited to the preset limits of
    each option; for example, the maximum length of a rectangular box is 40 nm in x and y, but
    only 20 nm in z. You can see the limits of each dimension by holding your mose over the input text box. The effective mass sets the material.
