nanoHUB News: December 2022

Issue 60

This month we are reflecting on another exciting year on nanoHUB. Check out our season's greeting, popular resources for the year, upcoming events, and more, below.

Season's Greeting

Thank you for being a part of the nanoHUB community. We wish you a wonderful holiday season! If you are looking for a fun and easy activity to try out over break, you can make your own buckyball on nanoHUB by following along with the Fun with Carbon Nanostructures tutorial using Crystal Viewer 2.3.4.

Please enjoy this special end-of-the-year issue of our newsletter, where we share nanoHUB highlights from the year. You will also find a section below where you can share your highlights from 2022 with us for a chance to be featured in the next nanoHUB newsletter!

A Look Back on 2022

We had many memorable moments this year including our Recitation Series using the ABACUS Tool Suite for semiconductor education, attending BCCE at Purdue University, our Back to School Series which featured several professors sharing how they use simulation tools on nanoHUB in their classrooms, publishing many resources on nanoHUB, and more! See below for a brief summary of the key highlights from 2022.

Recitation Series for Semiconductor Education

This series, featuring nanoHUB director, Dr. Gerhard Klimeck, enables faculty to enhance existing or new semiconductor classes with interactive simulations using the ABACUS Tool Suite in nanoHUB.

Hands-On Data Science and Machine Learning Training Series

This year included the continuation of our Hands-On Science and Machine Learning Training Series with six new tutorials. All workshops include hands-on activities, where participants apply the techniques to solve real problems using online resources at nanoHUB, with no need to install any software.

nanoHUB at the 2022 Biennial Conference on Chemical Education (BCCE)

In August, we attended BCCE. We enjoyed sharing our resources on chemistry education with attendees. You can also find our chemistry resources on nanoHUB in the Chemistry Group.

Back to School Series

In this series of webinars, learn from faculty who use nanoHUB in their classes and research. The webinars focus on using nanoHUB simulation apps and assignments or aspects of teaching or doing research using nanoHUB resources.

New Resources in 2022

We published over 250 new resources this year! Click here to browse what's new over the last year. To filter the content by type (courses, presentations, tools, etc) use the "Categories" box on the right side of the page.

Upcoming Events

Micromagnetic simulation of magnetic nanowires (MNW) using OOMMF to predict heating ability

The first nanoHUB webinar of 2023 will feature the OOMMF: Object Oriented MicroMagnetic Framework tool with Yicong Chen. Yicong is a Ph.D Candidate in Prof. Beth Stadler’s lab at the University of Minnesota whose research focuses on the micromagnetic simulation of magnetic nanowires using OOMMF. Feel free to share this invitation with your network. Registration is now open at the link below.

Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Transistor

nanoHUB Transistor Resources

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the transistor, we have curated a collection of transistor resources on nanoHUB. In our 75th Anniversary of the Transistor group, you can find courses, presentations, simulation tools, and compact models. Browse the group and access the resources for free.

You are also invited to join Purdue University's 75th Anniversary of the Invention of the Transistor: A Celebration of Purdue’s Role. The event will be live-streamed on Friday, December 16 at 3:30 PM EST. Click here at the event time to view the live-stream.

Presentations from the Purdue event will be published in nanoHUB. You can find these new resources next week, on Thursday, December 22 in the 75th Anniversary of the Transistor group.

We want to hear from you!
