For nanoHUB users interested in taking their understanding of biosensors to the next level, there is a professional master’s degree program at the University of Illinois that covers advanced topics in biosensors and their industrial application.
First of its kind, the Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Bioinstrumentation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a one-year professional degree program that trains engineers to be industry leaders by combining engineering coursework focused on bioinstrumentation and medical imaging devices with fundamental business training.
As the global healthcare system is undergoing transformation, driven largely by an aging population, there is greater need for technological advances in medicine and bioengineering that will provide better healthcare at a lower cost. However, a survey of U.S. CEOs by Business Roundtable and Change the Equation has highlighted the need for skilled employees for jobs that require advanced quantitative knowledge and basic business skills. The M.Eng. in Bioinstrumentation is designed to bridge this skills gap by developing students with advanced technical know-how, a better understanding of the highly regulated medical imaging industry and more business acumen through coursework, applied consulting project, weekly seminar series and co-curricular workshops.
